Funzi Island

Funzi Island is 45 minutes south of Diani. After a beautiful drive through sugarcane plantations, the minibus drops you off at the fishing port of Bodo. At low tide, the lagoon is no more than 1m deep.

The captain skilfully pilots a wooden boat, which seats around ten people. It skirts mangroves and mangrove trees in search of crocodiles and sumptuous birds: kingfishers, egrets, eagles and storks. The boat heads out to sea, skirting the coral reef and landing you on a pristine sandbank that’s invisible at low tide: for a swim, a shell hunt and a romantic stroll on this paradise islet.
