A few words in Kiswahili, Kenya’s official language
Kiswahili and English are Kenya’s two official languages. In some tourist areas, Kenyans also speak Italian, German and French.
Kiswahili is an African language with many Arabic-based words. Here are a few useful words:
- Jambo – Hello
- Kwaheri – Goodbye
- Hakuna matata – No problem
- Habari gani – How are you?
- Mzuri sana – I’m fine
- Tafadhali – Please
- Pole pole – Doucement
- Pole – Sorry
- Karibu – Welcome
- Asente – Thank you
- Ndio – Yes
- Hapana – No
- Hakuna pesa – I have no money
